Hello there, and welcome back to my blog!
I hope you’re doing well and feeling excited about growing your blog! If you remember, last week I talked about how Pinterest and blogging go hand in hand, if you missed that post then you can grab it here. After diving deeper into it, I’ve learned some powerful strategies that I want to share with you!
If you’re a blogger looking to drive more traffic to your site, Pinterest should be one of your best friends. Unlike other social media platforms, Pinterest is a visual search engine, meaning it thrives on keywords and SEO strategies.
In this post, I’ll walk you through how to use Pinterest for blogging, including keyword research, setting up your account, and making Pinterest work for your blog’s success.
Why Is Pinterest Good for Blogging?
Before we dive into the nitty-gritty, let’s answer a common question: Is Pinterest good for blogging? The answer is a resounding YES! Pinterest acts like Google but with images. People use it to search for ideas, tips, and blog content, which means your posts can reach a highly targeted audience for free if you optimize them correctly.
The Power of Keywords on Pinterest
The first thing you need to understand about blogging with Pinterest is that keywords matter, A LOT. Keywords help Pinterest connect your pins with the right audience. When someone searches for something like “how to start a blog on Pinterest,” Pinterest looks for pins with relevant keywords and shows them in search results.
How to Find the Best Keywords for Pinterest
Here’s how you can find the right keywords to use in your pins, boards, and blog posts:
- Use Pinterest’s Search Bar – Start typing a word related to your niche, and Pinterest will auto-suggest popular searches. These are the exact phrases people are looking for!
- Check Pinterest Trends – Visit trends.pinterest.com to see trending topics and high-traffic keywords.
- Look at Top Pins – Search for your topic and analyze the top-ranking pins. What words and phrases are they using?
- Use Keywords Everywhere – This free Chrome extension helps find keyword volume and trends across different platforms.
- Google & Ubersuggest – Sometimes Google searches and keyword tools like Ubersuggest can give you even more Pinterest-friendly terms.
Where to Use Keywords on Pinterest
Once you have your keywords, use them strategically in:
- Your Pinterest name and bio
- Board titles and descriptions
- Pin titles and descriptions
- Blog post titles and within your content
- Pin image text overlays
How to Start a Blog on Pinterest: Setting Up Your Account
To make Pinterest an SEO powerhouse for your blog, you need to set up your account correctly. Here’s how:
1. Create a Pinterest Business Account
A business account gives you access to Pinterest Analytics and Pinterest Ads (even if you don’t plan to run ads now, it’s good to have). It’s free and makes a huge difference in visibility.
2. Optimize Your Profile
- Choose a username that reflects your blog niche (example: @YourBlogName)
- Write a keyword-rich bio that tells people what your blog is about
- Add your blog link to your profile
3. Enable Rich Pins
Rich Pins pull extra details from your blog posts directly onto Pinterest, making your pins more informative. To enable them:
- Claim your website on Pinterest
- Validate Rich Pins through Pinterest’s validation tool
4. Create SEO-Optimized Boards
Your boards should match the topics of your blog. For example:
- Blogging Pinterest Strategy
- How to Use Pinterest for Blogging
- How to Start a Blog on Pinterest
- Pinterest Tips for Beginners
Each board should have keyword-rich descriptions to help them show up in searches.
5. Design Click-Worthy Pins
Pinterest is a visual platform, so your pins need to stand out. Here’s how:
✔️ Use bright, high-quality images ✔️ Add bold, easy-to-read text overlays with keywords ✔️ Use a 2:3 aspect ratio (1000×1500 pixels) ✔️ Keep your branding consistent (colors, fonts, logos)
If you want to design pins quickly and professionally, Canva is hands down the best tool for the job! It’s user-friendly, offers stunning templates, and lets you easily create custom designs with your brand’s unique touch. Whether you’re a pro or a beginner, Canva makes pin design a breeze!
How to Use Pinterest to Promote Your Blog
Once your Pinterest account is optimized, it’s time to drive traffic to your blog. Here are the best strategies:
- Pin Consistently – Aim for at least 5-10 pins per day (manual or scheduled with Tailwind)
- Join Group Boards – Find boards in your niche where members share each other’s content
- Use Tailwind Communities – These niche-specific groups help boost your reach
- Repin High-Performing Content – If a pin is doing well, repin it to relevant boards
- Test Different Pin Designs – Create multiple pins for the same blog post to see what works best
Final Thoughts: Start Growing Your Blog with Pinterest
If you’re serious about growing your blog, Pinterest is a must-use platform. By optimizing your keywords, setting up your profile correctly, and pinning consistently, you can drive massive traffic to your site over time.

Hi Meredith – It is great to see that you are diversifying the way that you are generating revenue streams in your online business. I keep hearing about Pinterest and it keeps sparking my interest. I’m especially interested to see how you are driving traffic to your blog posts. Your posts are always so valuable, and I can imagine more people finding value in what you have to say. Are you continuing on with TikTok or are you taking a small break or just cutting back? I’d love to hear your thoughts on that platform. Have a great week!
Hi Ernie,
Pinterest is a fantastic platform for driving traffic to a blog or website! I’m still in the process of setting things up and learning as I go, but I’ll be documenting my journey along the way.
As for TikTok, I’m taking a short break to focus on Pinterest and to figure out what’s not working with my hooks. I realized my videos weren’t getting the visibility they needed, which is a big issue if I want to generate sales. So, I’m stepping back briefly to refine my approach before coming back stronger.
Everything in this journey is a learning process, and growth takes time. I truly appreciate your support and will keep sharing what I learn. Wishing you a fantastic week! 😊
