1. Let AI Help You Find Topics That Actually Matter
I used to spend hours crafting the perfect email, only to get no response. Last week, I sent an email (Affiliate Marketing is Booming, But Most People Are Missing This), and it got my highest open rate yet at 36.36%. Not bad… That’s considered above average.
Here’s my exact process. The first thing I do before writing an email is research what’s happening in my audience’s world right now.
Instead of guessing, I use AI to dive deep into current pain points and trending conversations. Here’s my exact process.
If you want to make sure your AI-powered emails reach the right audience and actually convert, check out my post on crafting a welcome & follow-up email sequence. It’s packed with actionable steps.
I’ll prompt ChatGPT with Something Linke
“What are the biggest challenges affiliate marketers are facing in July 2025? Give me 10 specific pain points with examples.”
Then I cross-reference this with Google Trends to see what’s actually being searched. To dive deeper into how AI can supercharge your SEO research, check out my guide on AI vs. SEO for marketers. The magic happens when I find that sweet spot between what AI suggests and what my own experience tells me.
Why This Works
AI can process thousands of data points instantly, but you bring the human insight about what resonates with your specific audience. Together, it’s incredibly powerful.

2. Subject Lines That Stop the Scroll (With AI’s Help)
Your subject line is everything. I’ve tested this extensively, and AI-assisted subject lines consistently outperform my “gut instinct” ones.
My Go-To AI Prompt for Subject Lines
“Create 10 subject lines for an email about [topic]. Focus on curiosity and pain points. Make them feel personal, not salesy. Include urgency where appropriate.”
What I Have Learned
In fact, the best AI email marketing tools do more than churn out cookie-cutter lines, they help you tap into powerful psychological triggers.
For example: I was struggling with motivation and drafted a subject line that read, “Staying motivated in tough times.” AI suggested a tweak: “Why I almost quit yesterday (but didn’t).”
That small shift, adding curiosity and a touch of vulnerability, boosted my open rate quite a bit.
Sometimes, it’s not just “what” you say, but “how” you frame it.
3. Hook Them Hard (And Keep Them Reading)
Every email needs two hooks: one in the first sentence and another in the middle to prevent scroll-away.
First hook strategy: I always start with something happening right now in my life that connects to a universal experience. AI helps me identify which personal stories will resonate most.
For instance, my middle hook example: “But here’s where it gets interesting…” or “Plot twist: this actually made everything worse before it got better.”
AI prompt I use: “Help me create a compelling middle hook for an email about [topic] that maintains curiosity and prevents readers from losing interest.”
4. Content That Converts: Benefits Over Features
This is where most affiliate marketers mess up (including me at one point). They list features instead of selling the outcome.
Instead of: “This email tool has automation features”
AI helps me write: “Imagine sending emails that feel personal to each subscriber without you typing a single word”
To achieve this, my AI prompt is: “Rewrite this feature-focused content to focus on emotional benefits and outcomes: [paste your content]”
The AI marketing tools I use help me consistently flip features into “what’s in it for them” language that actually drives clicks.

5. Smart Frequency: Finding Your Email Timing Sweet Spot
Right now, I send two emails a week. An offer on Wednesday and a blog post on Saturday. It’s simple, consistent, and it works for me at this stage.
Timing and frequency are key, but the real magic happens when your emails are part of a planned sequence, my guide on welcome & follow-up email sequences shows you exactly how to set that up.
However, I will be adding to that schedule in the near future, right now I’m trying to not overwhelm my audience while still trying to get to know them.
Timing can make a big difference when it comes to open rates and engagement.
While I’m not using fancy AI scheduling tools just yet (like Seventh Sense or Omnisend, which analyze subscriber behavior and optimize send times), and you shouldn’t either at first.
I am paying attention to how my audience responds, meaning what emails are more interesting to them based on my open rate.
I’ve noticed that sending emails earlier in the morning tends to get more opens, and that little tweak can make a difference in engagement.
Real Insight
Even without advanced AI tools, being intentional about whenyou hit send can really help. It’s all about observing, testing, and adjusting as you go.
Down the line, I might explore AI tools for this, but for now, good ol’ observation and a consistent rhythm are working just fine.
6. Personalization That Actually Works
This isn’t just “Hey [First Name]” – it’s about creating emails that feel like you wrote them specifically for each person.
How to Use AI For This
– Segment your list based on behavior patterns AI identifies
– Create different email versions for different segments
– Let AI suggest which products to promote to which segments
To illustrate, you can have “productivity tools” emails go to subscribers who’ve clicked on workflow content, and “motivation” emails go to those who engage with mindset posts.
I haven’t implemented this just yet, but it’s definitely on my to-do list.
I haven’t pulled the trigger on segmentation just yet. Choosing the right niche can help you target your emails better, learn how in my post on best affiliate niches for 2025. I’m giving my list a little more time to grow and show me some patterns so that when I do start, it will actually make sense and work the way it should.

7. The Perfect Email Structure (AI-Optimized)
Here’s my proven formula that AI helps me execute flawlessly:
Hook (AI suggests attention-grabbing openers) – Opens with curiosity or controversy to stop the scroll
Story/Experience (My authentic voice, AI helps structure) – Shares relatable moments that build connection and trust
Value/Lesson (AI helps extract key takeaways) – Delivers actionable insights your audience can immediately use
Call to Action (AI optimizes for clarity and urgency) – Creates clear next steps that feel natural, not pushy
P.S. (AI suggests curiosity-driven additions) – Adds a final hook or bonus that encourages engagement
Consequently, my AI prompt for structure is: “Help me organize this email content into a compelling flow that builds trust and leads to action: [paste your rough draft]”
8. Tracking What Actually Works
The best part about AI email marketing tools? They don’t just help you create, they help you understand what’s working.
I monitor my open rates, click rates, and which emails get the most engagement. Then I feed this data back to AI to improve future emails.
Notably, my recent discovery is that emails with vulnerable, honest subject lines consistently outperform “professional” ones by 15-20%. AI helps identify this pattern. I have noticed this in my emails too.

9. Free AI Tools That Actually Move the Needle
You don’t need expensive software to start. Here are my go-to free ai tools for marketing:
– ChatGPT: Subject lines, content structure, hook ideas
– Claude: Email sequence planning and optimization
– Grok: Great for most everything.
– Grammarly: AI-powered tone adjustment
– Jasper AI (Free trial): AI assistant, built specifically for marketing.
–Kit (Free trial): email marketing tool.
In particular, I rotate between ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok, depending on what I need. Although, each one has its strengths, where one might fall short, another usually picks up the slack.
Over time, I’ve built a kind of working relationship with all three, so they understand my style and what I’m looking for.
Pro tip: Start with one tool, master it, then add others. Don’t overwhelm yourself trying to use everything at once.
10. Teaching AI to Sound Like You (This Changes Everything)
Here’s Something Most People Don’t Realize
AI needs to learn your voice before it can truly help you. When I first started using AI, everything sounded generic and robotic.
What Chabged The Game
I began feeding AI examples of my best-performing emails and asking it to analyze my writing style. I’d say things like “Here are 5 emails that got great responses. What patterns do you notice in my tone and structure?”
The Magic Happens When You
– Share your successful emails with AI and ask it to identify your style
– Give AI feedback when something doesn’t sound like you
– Create a “voice document” with AI that captures your personality
Example prompt I use: “Analyze these email examples and create a style guide for future emails. Focus on tone, sentence structure, and how I connect with my audience: [paste your best emails]”
As a result, after a few weeks of this back-and-forth, AI started suggesting content that actually sounded like me. It’s like having a writing partner who knows exactly how you’d say something.
Your Next Steps
The beauty of AI powered email marketing isn’t that it replaces your voice, it amplifies it. Start with researching one topic using AI, then craft a subject line with AI assistance. Send that email and compare the results to your usual approach.
If you’re serious about turning email opens into real connections and sales, my post on crafting a welcome & follow-up email sequence is the perfect next read—it breaks down everything step by step.
Ultimately, what you’ll discover is that AI doesn’t make your emails feel robotic. As a result, when used right, it makes them feel more human because you’re addressing real pain points with solutions that actually help.
Remember, your audience wants to hear from you, not from a robot. Use AI as your research assistant and copywriting partner, but never lose that authentic voice that makes people want to open your emails in the first place.
The most successful affiliate marketers I know aren’t afraid of AI, they’re using it to connect with their audience in deeper, more meaningful ways.

Hi Meredith,
This week has been filled with so many great points to help me and my online business!
The great part about reading other blogs is how they (you) can help me view things from a different perspective and use other ways to answer the “pain points” of our customers.
Thank you!
Aww, thank you so much, Marc! 😊 I’m really glad my blog gave you a new way to look at things, that means a lot. I totally agree, reading other blogs always sparks new ideas for me too. You’re doing awesome, and I’m cheering you on every step of the way!
Meredith
Hi Meredith – Deep down I believe most people know that email follow-up is critical in this type of business. But that blank page, or writer’s block, is something that plagues a lot of people. I know I am one of those people, on occasion What do I say? How do I say it? Will anybody read it? These are all questions that I ask myself. I have started to use AI to assist. But I want to be true to myself and use it as a tool and not as a replacement. Your post gives solutions to this concern. I downloaded your prompt page to give me ideas to go when I ask AI for ideas. Thank you for that! One thing that I learned from your post that I had not thought before is the second HOOK in the middle of the content. Thank you for that as well!
Hey Ernie! I’m so glad my post helped you with your email follow-up challenges. I totally get how that blank page can feel daunting… Those same questions pop into my head, too! It’s awesome that you’re using AI as a tool while staying true to your voice. It will help you a lot, and that’s the perfect balance. I’m thrilled you found the prompt page useful and that the second hook idea sparked something new for you. Thanks for sharing, and I hope you have a great rest of your week!
