Hello again and welcome back to my blog!
As I’ve been diving into research for social media and working on integrating my email into the affiliate system, I’ve come to realize just how essential understanding your core “why” is in the journey of affiliate marketing, and I wanted to share this with you. Your “why” isn’t just about achieving financial goals or hitting business milestones, it’s the fundamental reason that drives you to keep going, even when things get tough. When starting your affiliate marketing journey, one of the most pivotal aspects to consider is understanding your core “why.” Your “why” is the deep-seated reason behind your actions and decisions in this field. Let’s go ahead and dive in.
What Is a Compelling “Why”?
A compelling “why” can touch on different areas of your life. Here are some key examples:
1. Financial Freedom: This might be a primary driver, representing goals such as:
– Becoming debt-free
– Providing a better standard of living for your family
– Retiring early to enjoy more leisure time
Financial freedom shows just how much better your life can be with greater financial independence.
2. Time Freedom: Another motivating factor could be:
– The desire to have control over your schedule
– Spending more time with loved ones
– Traveling to new places
– Pursuing personal hobbies without the constraints of a traditional 9-to-5 job
Time freedom allows you to live life on your own terms, boosting your satisfaction and well-being.
3. Helping Others: A powerful “why” might be driven by:
– A passion for making a positive impact
– Engaging in charitable work
– Mentoring
– Creating products that genuinely improve people’s lives
This “why” brings fulfillment through contributing to the greater good.
4. Personal Growth: For some, the key motivator could be:
– A desire for self-improvement and continuous learning
– Challenging yourself
– Acquiring new skills
– Striving for personal development
This “why” focuses on the journey of becoming a better version of oneself.
5. Legacy: Lastly, the concept of legacy can be profound, involving:
– The creation of something that endures beyond your lifetime
– Building a successful business
– Creating a charitable organization
– Setting a positive example for future generations
This form of “why” emphasizes the lasting impact and value you wish to leave behind.
How to Uncover Your Core “Why”
So, how can you uncover your core “why”? Start by reflecting on your personal values and long-term aspirations. Ask yourself what truly drives you beyond material success. What would make your efforts in affiliate marketing meaningful? Contemplate the impact you wish to make on your life and others. Journaling can be a helpful tool for clarifying your motivations. Write down your thoughts and feelings to better understand what excites and inspires you.
Consider what dreams or goals resonate most deeply with you. Speaking with mentors, coaches, or trusted friends can also provide valuable insights and feedback. They might help you identify patterns or connections you hadn’t previously recognized. Additionally, reviewing your past experiences and achievements can shed light on your underlying motivations. Reflect on what has given you the most satisfaction and fulfillment in your life.
The Benefits of a Strong “Why”
Understanding your “why” goes beyond just providing purpose. It enhances your resilience, serving as an anchor during challenging times. A strong “why” helps you stay focused and persevere, transforming routine tasks into meaningful actions that contribute to a larger goal. It guides your decision-making, ensuring that your choices align with your values and long-term aspirations. Moreover, a compelling “why” can inspire others, creating a ripple effect of positivity. By sharing your “why,” you encourage those around you to find and pursue their own “why,” fostering a supportive and motivated community.
Identifying and deeply connecting with your core “why” is crucial for achieving success in affiliate marketing. It provides purpose, enhances resilience, guides your decisions, and inspires others. By thoroughly exploring your motivations and aligning your efforts with your “why,” you establish a solid foundation for long-term success and fulfillment. I completely agree that knowing your core why is incredibly motivating, strengthens our resilience, and guides our decisions. When we really know why we’re doing something we know when we should just give up on something because it doesn’t really matter to us, and when we can’t give up no matter how hard things get.
Hi Nathan,
Absolutely! Understanding our core why gives us a clear sense of purpose and helps us navigate challenges with determination. It allows us to discern between what’s worth fighting for and what might be a distraction. When our motivation is rooted in a strong, personal why, it empowers us to push through obstacles and stay committed, even when the going gets tough. Thanks for sharing this insight!

My why is to have a family and be able to be a stay at home mom! I want the gift of financial freedom and time to spend my days doing fun activities and spending time with the people I love! What is your why?
Hi Alison,
That’s a wonderful and motivating why! For me, my core drive is to achieve financial security for my kids and my future. Since I don’t have a retirement plan, it’s important for me to build a stable foundation now so I’m not relying on my children to take care of me later on. It’s all about creating a secure and comfortable future for my family. What steps are you taking to work towards your why?

Perhaps a daily review of our “why” would be a good exercise. My why is everything you’ve outlined. Plus I just don’t want to ever punch another time clock. It makes me anxious to think about it.
Hi Kate,
A daily review of our “why” sounds like a fantastic idea! It can really keep us focused and motivated. For me, my core drive is to secure financial stability for my kids and my future since I don’t have a retirement plan. I also completely understand the anxiety around punching a time clock. It’s crucial to build something that gives us more freedom and control over our lives.

Hi, Meredith! I love this post! Our why is so important. What I’ve found is my why surprisingly changes. I started out wanting financial security and found I needed something deeper to strive for. What I found surprised me! I want the time to learn. I’d love to have the time in the day to just sit and read or learn how to do things I’ve always wanted to know how to do. I was surprised by my own why! I still want that financial security but it wasn’t enough to move me forward when the going gets rough. I imagine my library, sitting in the window seat with a cup of tea, and I strive forward. I suppose a why can be deeply personal!
I am looking forward to your next post!
Nakina
Hi Nakina!
I love your insight about how our “why” can evolve over time. It’s fascinating how what starts as a pursuit for financial security can transform into a deeper desire for personal growth and fulfillment. Your vision of sitting with a cup of tea and a good book sounds so peaceful and motivating!
It’s amazing how discovering what truly drives us can make all the difference, especially during those tough times.

We must know our “Why” and then remember our “Why” to keep us moving forward in our business. This is what keeps us going, this is our motivation. My “Why” is my husband.
Sherri

It’s so true that understanding your deeper motivations—whether it’s financial freedom, time freedom, helping others, personal growth, or leaving a legacy—can make all the difference when things get tough.
I love how you broke down each type of “why” and provided practical steps to uncover it. It’s like finding your compass to guide you through the ups and downs of this journey.
Thanks for sharing these insights! They’re super helpful and inspiring. Here’s to digging deep and staying motivated on our paths to success!
Meredith I thought your picture that states “If your WHY is Strong enough, You will figure out the HOW” was the most relevant observation for me. This doesn’t mean that your WHY can’t evolve over time as we learn what we didn’t know, it just has to be a Strong Deep conviction. I sometimes find that my Why is just the fact that I refuse to give up. Great Post!
Hi Ken,
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I’m glad you found the picture meaningful. You’re right, our “why” can evolve as we grow and learn, but it needs to be a strong and deep conviction. The determination to never give up is a powerful “why” in itself. I’m happy you enjoyed the post!
Meredith
Hi Meredith,
Such an important part of our lives is figuring out what that “why” is. Unfortunately, we tend to get to that point much later in life when it would have been such a great factor if this would have been taught to us earlier in our lives.
No matter, the important thing is to be able to sit down, look at what encompasses that why and drive to live for that why as much as possible. It’s never too late!
As you’ve mentioned, once we have a clear picture of what that why is, it’s quite hard to be taken away from it and it sure helps us when life throws a few lemons our way!
Hi Marc,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Figuring out our “why” is indeed a crucial part of life, and it’s true that many of us discover it later than we’d like. However, as you said, it’s never too late to identify and live for our “why”. Having a clear purpose helps us stay focused and resilient, even when life gets tough. I’m glad this post was meaningful to you!

Without a strong purpose, meaning, and why, the basis of doing anything in life is diminished, and you will lack the drive and energy to succeed at the goals you have for your future. It’s vital to know this down to your core so that your motivation and actions stay at the forefront of your mind and you consistently re-connect purposefully to take the necessary steps towards your destinations. Great blog post
Hi Vanessa,
Thank you for your insightful comment! I completely agree, without a strong purpose and meaning, it can be challenging to find the drive and energy needed to achieve our goals. Knowing our “why” at a deep level helps keep our motivation and actions aligned with our aspirations. I’m glad you enjoyed the blog post!

HI Meredith – Finding the “why” is so important as it not only provides the necessary motivation to progress but it’s also the fact that if we are honest with ourselves, I mean truly honest, we can achieve so much. Finding the “why” is such a personal action step into everyone’s “why” may be different but ultimately it is about fulfillment and success. Thank you for this post and the reminder of why we do this business.
Hi Ernie,
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! You’re absolutely right, finding our “why” is crucial for motivation and progress. It’s a deeply personal journey, and being truly honest with ourselves can lead to incredible achievements. I’m glad this post served as a reminder of why we do this business. Hi Meredith,
Great post! I can’t even count how many time my WHY has empowered me to push through and not give up. I believe, like you, that this is so important and the source of strength needed to overcome obstacles and those dark times when all we want to do is give up. You presented this so well! Thanks 🙂
Denny

Meredith, the things that drive me in my affiliate marketing journey revolve around fear of loss and quality of life.
1. I don’t want to loose all of my technology accounts such as web hosting and domains. These are things that help drive my passion for doing fun things online.
2. I don’t want to loose the ability to plan for trips locally and around the world – and I would if I could not afford to pay for those trips. Plus I like living high on the hog and spreading my wealth around.
3. I don’t want to loose the ability to move. I want to live my best possible life before this body of mine says, “Enough!”.
4. I don’t want to loose my ability to lead the way. I have a knack for drving through the challenges of life and coming up with step by step instructions to show others how they can do this.
So I seek to maintain an abundance of technology, travels, health and leadership for a stellar quality of life in retirement.
Hi Robert,
Thank you for sharing your motivations! It’s clear that maintaining your technology, travel opportunities, health, and leadership skills are all crucial for you. These drivers not only help you enjoy a high quality of life now but also set the stage for a stellar retirement. Your focus on these aspects is inspiring and shows a thoughtful approach to balancing passion and practical needs. I appreciate you sharing this with me!
