Hello and welcome back!
I hope your week is off to a fantastic start. If you’re here, it might be because you’re ready to explore new opportunities, learn something valuable, or take the next step toward achieving your goals. You’re in the right place! Today, I’m sharing insights from my TikTok bootcamp that will help you create engaging content, grow your audience, and open the doors to monetization.
Let’s jump in!
A Quick Recap
In a previous post which you can find here, I shared the simple but powerful formula for creating viral TikTok videos:
Hook → Buildup → Delivery → Call to Action (CTA).
The hook is the most important part because it grabs attention within the first few seconds. If your hook isn’t strong enough to keep viewers engaged, they’ll scroll away before you can deliver your message.
This formula is essential to getting yourself out there. It’s your ticket to being seen and heard. Without creating engaging content that connects with your audience, it’s nearly impossible to grow.
I’ll be honest, I still struggle with this. Crafting the perfect hook and delivering the right content takes time, practice, and patience, but the more you create, the better you’ll get.
This Week’s Focus: Growing Your Audience
Once you’ve started creating content, the next step is growing your audience. Growth is crucial because there are specific levels you must reach to unlock TikTok’s monetization features.
Here’s what we covered in my bootcamp about growing your following:
- Create Content Regularly:
Consistency is everything! TikTok rewards creators who post frequently, and it helps you stay top of mind with your audience. Stick to your niche and focus on creating content that connects with your ideal followers. - Engage with Others:
Spend 10–15 minutes in the morning and evening engaging with other creators. Comment thoughtfully, reply to people who interact with your videos, and build real connections. - Ask for Support:
Don’t hesitate to ask friends and family to engage with your videos when you’re just starting out, my mother is one of my top supporters on there. 🫶 Love you mom! However, be mindful of who you attract, TikTok prioritizes genuine engagement over “follow for follow” trends, which can hurt your account. - Be Selective About Followers:
Avoid following people just to gain a follow back. Instead, focus on building an audience that aligns with your niche. This ensures your content reaches the right people and helps your account grow organically.
Unlocking Monetization Features
TikTok offers several ways to monetize your content, but these doors only open when you hit certain growth milestones.
Here are the main options:
TikTok Shop for Creators:
Once you qualify, you can partner with brands to sell products directly through your videos. This feature also includes training and tools to help you succeed.
- Requirements: Typically requires a minimum follower count (e.g., 1,000-5,000 followers depending where you live) or consistent content posting.
- Creators may also need to meet engagement thresholds, such as a certain number of views or interactions over a set period.
Creator Rewards Program:
TikTok rewards creators who consistently produce high-quality, engaging content.
- Requirements: This program is available to creators who consistently produce high-quality content and meet TikTok’s minimum follower or engagement metrics.
- TikTok may prioritize creators with a proven track record of creating viral or engaging videos.
Subscriptions:
Offer exclusive content to your most loyal followers for a monthly fee.
- Requirements: TikTok usually limits this feature to creators with a certain follower base (e.g., 10,000 followers, again, it might be different in your region) and those who have demonstrated steady audience engagement.
- A high level of trust and loyalty from followers is often necessary to succeed with this feature.
Collaborate with Artists:
Work with musicians to promote their songs and earn through collaborations.
- Requirements: While this may not require a specific follower count, it often depends on your niche, engagement rate, and ability to create impactful promotional content.
- Artists typically choose creators with an audience that matches their target demographic.
Each of these features requires you to meet specific criteria, such as a minimum number of followers, engagement rates, or quality of content and consistency. That’s why focusing on growth is so important, it’s the key to unlocking these opportunities.
My Takeaway: It All Starts with Content
The foundation of success on any platform, especially TikTok, lies in creating great content that truly connects with your audience. Everything else, growing your followers, engagement, and ultimately monetization, stems from this single focus.
Hook → Buildup → Delivery → Call to Action.
Each component plays a vital role. The hook grabs attention in the first few seconds, the buildup keeps viewers interested, the delivery provides value or entertainment, and the call to action motivates them to take the next step, whether that’s following, liking, commenting, or purchasing.
If your content isn’t strong enough to catch attention and hold viewers’ interest, you won’t be able to reach the milestones needed for monetization. It’s not just about going viral but consistently providing value and engaging with your audience so they keep coming back for more.
I’ll admit, this is still a work in progress for me. Some videos land perfectly, drawing in views, comments, and likes, while others fall flat, not performing as well as I’d hoped, and you know what? That’s okay, success isn’t linear, and growth doesn’t happen overnight.
Every post is an opportunity to learn, what worked, what didn’t, and how I can improve. With each attempt, I get a little better at crafting content that fits what my audience is looking for. The key is to keep going. Practice, patience, and persistence are the ultimate tools for improvement.
Even if things don’t go perfectly right away, remember, the process is just as important as the outcome. Every step you take toward refining your content brings you closer to your goals. Keep experimenting, keep learning, and most importantly, keep creating!

hi Meredith, you are doing so well with your content creation on TikTok! Congratulations and keep up the good work! I’m not sure what’s going to happen with TikTok this very weekend, and I don’t think anybody does know. Social media is in constant flux and it is important for us to realize that no social media platform is safe as long as oligarch’s own it. When you think about it, Facebook, Twitter, and even TikTok are owned by wealthy billionaires. Have you heard of Substack? That’s a great site for writers. People sell their offerings there all the time and create some create videos. But it is not a social selling site the same way TikTok is. Who knows, maybe they are headed that way, too.
Hi Kate,
Thank you for your kind words and encouragement, it really means a lot. You’re absolutely right, social media is always changing, and it’s a good reminder that no platform is truly permanent. I’ve heard of Substack, and it sounds like an interesting option for writers. It’s great to know there are other platforms out there where people can share and even sell their content. Who knows what the future holds for TikTok or even platforms like Substack, but staying flexible and exploring different options is definitely the way to go. Thanks again, and I hope you have a great week!

I loved reading this—your energy and determination really shine through! Honestly, hooks are my nemesis too—sometimes I feel like I’ve nailed it, and other times, crickets. 😂 But you’re so right about it being a work in progress and that every post is a chance to learn and grow.
Also, shoutout to your mom for being your biggest cheerleader—what a legend.
Hi Sarah,
Thank you so much! Hooks can definitely be tricky, right? It’s such a hit or miss process sometimes, but like you said, each post is a learning opportunity. 😂 Yes, my mom is absolutely the best, she keeps me going and always has my back. Thanks again for the kind words and support!

Hey, Meredith!
Thanks for sharing what you’ve learned in boot camp! Your summary of how to monetize on TikTok is clear and concise. I didn’t know there were so many ways to earn! You’re right. It all comes down to content. We’ve got to get good at the hook and then keep people watching with the buildup. These are skills that are learned through trial and error. As Hamlet would say, words, words, words until they’re put into practice and figured out by experience. But, hey! We can do that! I admire how you’ve persisted on TikTok and have begun as an affiliate. You’re my TikTok hero!
Nakina

I completely agree that trial and error is the heart of learning, and every bit of progress we make is worth celebrating. We’re all in this together, figuring it out step by step, and I’m so grateful for your support and encouragement. Let’s keep pushing forward, you’re doing amazing!
Sending lots of positivity your way,
Meredith
